What Tier 3+ means in practice

The facility at Berzaunes iela 1 in Riga runs power and cooling in an N+1 configuration: every critical component has at least one independent reserve, so maintenance does not mean downtime.

Standard 19-inch telecommunication racks take any modern server, from a single 1U machine to full private cages for colocation clients. Access is controlled, the building is under video surveillance and systems are monitored around the clock.

Connectivity is our own: CloudHosting announces its IP space over its own BGP network with redundant uplinks, and carriers present at the site can be reached over a cross-connect.

The Riga site is the core, not the whole story. A second live region runs in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and we bring capacity online in Dubai on request.

Where exactly is the CloudHosting data center?

At Berzaunes iela 1 in Riga, Latvia: our own data centre, our own hardware and our own engineers, not rented racks in someone else's facility. All primary CloudHosting infrastructure runs from this Tier 3+ site under EU jurisdiction. A second live region operates in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for workloads that want Western European connectivity, and capacity in Dubai is brought online on request. Whichever region you choose, the service, the panel and the support team stay the same. The address is public, the visits are real, and the escorted tour before a contract is free.

Can I colocate my own servers in the data center?

Yes, that is our colocation service: from a single 1U machine in a shared 19-inch rack to full private racks, with tower servers accepted as well. Colocation starts at 40 EUR a month for 1U, and the add-on list covers extra power, guaranteed bandwidth, BGP sessions, additional uplinks and dual PDU feeds. Our engineers on site act as your remote hands: they swap disks, reboot machines and check cables, so you do not have to drive to Riga for every small task.

Can I visit the data center before signing a colocation contract?

Yes. We arrange escorted visits for colocation clients at Berzaunes iela 1 in Riga: you see the racks, the power and cooling setup and the exact place where your equipment will stand, and you can ask our engineers anything on the spot. Write to us or call and we will agree on a time that suits you. We prefer showing the real thing to publishing glossy pictures: infrastructure you can walk through is the best sales argument we have.

What connectivity is available at the site?

CloudHosting announces its own IP address space over its own BGP network with a registered ASN and redundant uplinks; that is the default for every service. On top of that you can order cross-connects to carriers present at the site, private circuits from the data centre to your offices, and site-to-site VPN tunnels. IPv4 addresses come from our own allocations. If you run your own AS, we set up BGP sessions with your prefixes as a standard colocation add-on.

What does Tier 3+ mean in practice?

It means every critical system has at least one independent reserve: power and cooling run in an N+1 configuration with UPS protection, so a component can fail or be taken out for maintenance while the load carries on. In practice the difference is simple: scheduled maintenance does not become your downtime. The redundancy scheme above shows the paths: two independent feeds and UPS for power, duplicated cooling units, and two uplinks behind our BGP core for the network.

Which regions does CloudHosting operate in?

The core is our own Tier 3+ data centre in Riga, where we control the building, the hardware and the network end to end. A second live region runs in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, for customers who want Western European connectivity or an out-of-country copy of their data. Capacity in Dubai is brought online on request for projects that need a presence outside the EU. Plans, prices and the customer panel are the same in every region, so the choice is purely about geography.

How is the data center physically secured?

Access to the building at Berzaunes iela 1 is controlled and logged: nobody walks in unaccompanied, and colocation clients visit with an escort. The whole site is under video surveillance, and both the building systems and the customer equipment are monitored around the clock by engineers, not only by software. Alarms about power, cooling or network anomalies reach a person immediately. It is a working industrial facility rather than a showroom, and we think that is exactly what a data centre should be.

Is my data hosted in the EU?

Yes. The primary site is in Riga, Latvia, so data hosted there stays under EU jurisdiction and GDPR by default, which your privacy policy and client contracts can state plainly. The second region in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is inside the EU as well. Dubai capacity, available on request, is the exception for projects that specifically need a non-EU location. We are a Latvian company, so questions about your data are answered by an EU legal entity, not a foreign intermediary.

What happens when a power feed fails?

Power reaches equipment through UPS systems in an N+1 configuration with independent feeds, so a problem on one path never reaches your hardware: the load carries on from the reserve while engineers fix the cause. The same logic covers cooling: units are duplicated, and losing one does not push racks out of spec. Every incident of this kind is handled by the on-site team, and if your equipment could be affected, you hear it from us first, with facts rather than a status page mystery.

What can your engineers do as remote hands?

Remote hands means our on-site engineers act as your hands in the data centre: reboot a server, swap a failed disk or a RAM module you shipped to us, reconnect cables, read out a console screen, install equipment into the rack. Simple actions are part of normal colocation support; bigger planned works are agreed in advance and billed by the hour as IT support. For most clients this removes the main downside of colocation: physical presence exists without driving to Riga at three in the morning.

Can I get a private rack?

Yes. The entry point is shared space in a 19-inch rack, from a single 1U server. When the project grows, you move to a full private rack: your own lockable cabinet with dual power feeds and room for servers, storage and network gear together. The add-on list covers extra power, 10G uplinks and cross-connects, so the rack grows with you. Pricing for private racks is individual and depends on power draw, so send us your equipment list and we will quote it.

How much does colocation cost?

Colocation starts at 40 EUR a month for a 1U server and the same for a tower unit, with electricity billed by the meter. Add-ons (extra power, guaranteed bandwidth, BGP, additional uplinks, dual PDU, 10G, cross-connects) are listed openly on the colocation page, and items marked on quote depend on your configuration. There is no setup theatre: you bring the server, we agree the details, and you get rack space, power, cooling and our network. The escorted visit before signing costs nothing.

Why does an own data centre matter?

Because the whole chain is one company: the building, the power, the cooling, the network and the engineers who answer your support tickets. When something needs fixing, there is no landlord to wait for and no subcontractor to blame; the person who watches the alarm is a colleague of the person who answers you. It also keeps prices honest, since nobody upstream is charging us rack rent. Plenty of providers resell someone else's data centre; we answer for our own.

Which CloudHosting services run from this site?

Everything CloudHosting sells: web hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, Nextcloud, MikroTik CHR and colocation all run from the Riga site, with the Netherlands as the second region for VPS and related services. That matters practically: moving between products, from hosting to a VPS or from a VPS to a dedicated server, is a copy inside one network, not a migration between providers. Backups are kept on separate storage, and enterprise projects can combine dedicated hardware with private networking within the same building.
