Why host your VPS in the Netherlands

A VPS in our Netherlands region is a full virtual machine in Amsterdam: guaranteed vCPU, RAM and NVMe storage, your choice of operating system and complete root access. Amsterdam is home to AMS-IX, one of the best connected internet hubs in Europe, which is exactly why we picked it as our second region. Traffic runs on our own network, AS58269, and our own IP space, and you manage the server from the same panel as every other CloudHosting service.

Typical tenants are websites and shops selling into Western Europe, SaaS backends, APIs, containers and Windows desktops that need to sit near their users. A server is live 30 to 60 seconds after payment and scales to 16 vCPU, 128 GB RAM and 2 TB NVMe without a reinstall. Honest guidance: a single simple website is cheaper on shared web hosting, constant full-core load belongs on a dedicated server, and audiences in the Baltics are better served from Riga. All three alternatives are linked below.

Why Amsterdam

Close to your users in Western Europe

West European latency

Round trips of a few milliseconds to London, Frankfurt and Paris keep websites and APIs quick for users across Western Europe and the UK.

AMS-IX connectivity

Amsterdam hosts AMS-IX, one of the best connected internet hubs in Europe, so traffic to and from your server takes short, direct paths.

EU jurisdiction

Your server runs in the Netherlands under EU law, with GDPR applying by default. That keeps compliance conversations with your clients short.

Same panel, same people

One customer panel, one support team and identical pricing across regions. The engineers who run Riga answer for Amsterdam too, around the clock.

What a Netherlands VPS is used for

Twelve workloads our customers place in Amsterdam, and a starting size for each.

Online stores for EU customers

Shops selling into Germany, France, Benelux and the UK load faster when the server sits in Amsterdam instead of an overseas cloud region. WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Magento on 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM handles a busy store, and NVMe keeps product and checkout queries quick.

SaaS for European users

Run the application, database and queue on one or several servers on a private network, close to the customers who pay for the product. Predictable monthly pricing replaces per-request cloud bills, and vertical scaling to 16 vCPU postpones re-architecture. EU jurisdiction helps when clients ask where their data lives.

Web apps and APIs

Node.js, Python, PHP, Go or Java backends with your own versions, workers and cron jobs. Amsterdam keeps response times low for consumers across Western Europe, and full root access means any stack works. Start at 1 to 2 vCPU and grow when traffic does.

Docker and containers

Each VPS is a full virtual machine with its own kernel, so Docker, Docker Compose, Podman and single-node k3s run unrestricted. Build images, host a private registry and isolate every project in its own container. 4 GB RAM is a sensible floor for a small Compose stack.

Databases and caching

MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis want fast random I/O, which is exactly what NVMe delivers. Place the database next to the app over the private network, back it up daily and size RAM to the working set. From 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM.

Streaming and download origin

An origin server for video, audio or large file downloads benefits from Amsterdam's short paths to European networks and a 1 Gbps port on every plan. Pair it with a CDN for global delivery or serve Europe directly. Traffic allowances reach 50 TB per month.

Agencies hosting client sites

Web studios consolidate client WordPress and custom sites on one or several VPS with full control over PHP versions, isolation and backups. Per-client containers or virtual hosts keep projects separated, and the hosting margin stays with the agency instead of a reseller platform.

Second region for Riga customers

Customers running production in our Riga region use Amsterdam as the other leg: cross-region backup copies, a warm standby or a full disaster-recovery environment. Two regions in one panel on one invoice make a realistic recovery plan cheap to keep alive.

VPN and network services

WireGuard or OpenVPN with a static Dutch IPv4 gives a remote team a stable exit point in Western Europe. Site-to-site tunnels, DNS filtering and proxies fit the same box. The smallest plan with 1 vCPU and 2 GB RAM serves dozens of VPN clients on a 1 Gbps port.

Windows Server and remote desktop

A Windows Server VPS in Amsterdam is an always-on office machine reachable over RDP from anywhere. The license is included in the plan price, two administrator sessions work out of the box and RDS CALs add more seats. 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM make RDP work comfortable.

Game and voice servers

Minecraft, Counter-Strike, Rust or a TeamSpeak server hosted in Amsterdam gives players in Western Europe and the UK stable, low ping. NVMe shortens world loading and the 1 Gbps port absorbs busy evenings. A modded Minecraft world starts well on 4 GB RAM.

Nextcloud and file storage

A private cloud drive on NVMe under EU law: Nextcloud syncs files, calendars and contacts across desktops and phones, and share links replace email attachments. Plans reach 2 TB NVMe for serious archives, and cross-region copies add a second country for the cautious.

When Amsterdam is not the answer

Three honest cases where a different product, or a different region, is the better choice.

One simple website

A brochure site, a blog or a small WordPress shop does not justify running and patching a server of its own. Shared web hosting with a control panel, PHP and daily backups costs less and needs no command line at all.

Compare web hosting

Full CPU load around the clock

Transcoding, CI fleets and heavy analytics that never let the cores rest are cheaper on physical hardware. A dedicated server gives you the whole machine, with NVMe and 10 Gbps options, at a better price per core.

Netherlands VPS questions

Why did you choose Amsterdam for the Netherlands region?

Amsterdam is one of the best connected internet hubs in Europe and home to AMS-IX, so traffic between your server and networks across Western Europe takes short, direct paths. That reach is the whole point of the region: websites, APIs and VPNs aimed at Dutch, German, French, Belgian and UK users respond noticeably faster from Amsterdam than from further east. It is our second region, running the same plans, panel and prices as Riga, with traffic on our own network, AS58269, and our own IP space.

Should I pick the Netherlands or the Riga region?

Follow your users. If most of them are in Western Europe, the UK or Benelux, Amsterdam gives them the shorter round trip. If they are in Latvia, the Baltics or Scandinavia, Riga, our own Tier 3+ data centre, is closer. Plans, prices, NVMe storage and the customer panel are identical in both regions, so nothing else changes with the choice. Many customers run production in one region and keep backups in the other. A third region in Dubai is planned. If you are unsure, order where your traffic lives today; migration between regions is possible later.

What latency can I expect to Western Europe and the UK?

From Amsterdam, round trips to London, Frankfurt and Paris take a few milliseconds, and most of Western Europe stays in a similarly low range because AMS-IX and the dense carrier ecosystem around it keep network paths short. We do not publish exact millisecond tables, because real latency depends on your users' providers and routes, not only on our side. If a specific route matters to your project, write to support before ordering and we will help you measure it. For users in the Baltics, the Riga region is usually the shorter path.

Is my data under EU law in the Netherlands region?

Yes. The Netherlands is an EU member state, so servers in Amsterdam sit under EU jurisdiction and GDPR applies to personal data by default, exactly as it does in Riga. Your VPS and its contents stay in the region you selected and are never moved without your explicit action. The contract is with CloudHosting, a Latvian company, so both the provider and the infrastructure remain inside the EU, which keeps data-processing agreements and client compliance questionnaires straightforward. If your compliance rules require a specific country, you choose it yourself at order time and it does not change afterwards.

Will my server have a Dutch IP address?

Yes. Every VPS in the Netherlands region gets a dedicated IPv4 address from our own IP space announced in Amsterdam, and geolocation databases place these addresses in the Netherlands. That matters for services that localize by IP, for search results and for anything that expects a Dutch or West European origin. Because the addresses are ours, announced on our network AS58269, and each address belongs to one customer at a time, its sending and browsing reputation is yours alone. Note that geolocation providers update on their own schedules, so a rare stale entry can take time to correct.

Can I move an existing VPS between Riga and Amsterdam?

Yes, in both directions, through support. We take a snapshot of your server and start it in the other region, so the operating system, software and data arrive exactly as they were. The IP address changes, because each region announces its own ranges, so plan a DNS update and a short switchover window; the old server can keep running until you confirm the new one. The move is arranged as a support task rather than a panel button, which lets us schedule it around your low-traffic hours. Pricing does not change, as plans cost the same in both regions.

How much does a VPS in the Netherlands cost?

Exactly as much as in Riga: we do not charge a premium for the Amsterdam region. Plans start at 11 EUR per month for 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 20 GB NVMe, which becomes 9.35 EUR per month on 12-month billing. The largest standard plan, 16 vCPU, 128 GB RAM and 2 TB NVMe, is 572 EUR per month, and the calculator builds sizes in between. Every price includes NVMe storage, one IPv4 address, a 1 Gbps port and private networking, with no setup fee. Prices exclude VAT.

Which operating systems can I install in Amsterdam?

The same catalogue as everywhere on our platform. Linux images cover Ubuntu LTS, Debian, CentOS and AlmaLinux with full root access over SSH, and other distributions can be discussed with support. Windows Server templates are available on every plan size with the license already included in the price; you connect over RDP as Administrator, and two concurrent admin sessions work out of the box. The operating system can be reinstalled or switched later, keeping the same plan and the same Dutch IP address, and the server is live 30 to 60 seconds after payment either way.

Does Docker work on a Netherlands VPS?

Yes, without restrictions. Each VPS is a fully virtualized machine with its own kernel, not a shared container, so Docker, Docker Compose, Podman and single-node Kubernetes distributions such as k3s behave exactly as on physical hardware. A common setup is Ubuntu LTS plus the official Docker packages, running your Compose stack within minutes of provisioning. For builds and a handful of containers we suggest at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM; NVMe storage makes image pulls and layer extraction fast. Amsterdam is a convenient home for registries and CI artifacts consumed by teams across Europe.

How do backups work, and can they go to the other region?

Depending on the plan you get daily backups, hourly snapshots and cross-region copies; each plan card lists what is included. Cross-region means a copy of your Amsterdam backup is stored in Riga, in a different country on separate infrastructure, so even a serious incident in one location does not take your data with it. The same works in reverse for Riga servers backing up to Amsterdam. Backups are stored apart from the VPS itself and restores are available around the clock. We still advise keeping one copy of truly critical data outside any single provider, including us.

Can I run a mail server, and will you set PTR records?

Technically nothing blocks a mail server on any of our VPS plans, and each server's dedicated IPv4 means the sending reputation belongs to you alone. For deliverability, publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC in DNS and ask support to set the PTR (reverse DNS) record for your Dutch IP; we do that on request. A West European IP is a reasonable base for mail aimed at European recipients, but inbox placement is earned over months of clean sending, not granted by geography. For business-critical mail we honestly recommend pairing the server with an established relay or hosted mailbox service.

What is your DDoS and security stance in Amsterdam?

The network is watched around the clock and clearly malicious volumetric floods are filtered at the edge, in Amsterdam as in Riga. Inside the server, security is your part of the deal: a firewall, fail2ban, rate limits in your web server and prompt updates stop most real-world attacks, and our engineers can help you set those up. If your project is likely to attract targeted attacks, talk to us before ordering; a separated frontend, backends kept on the private network and an upstream scrubbing service where it genuinely helps is the architecture we usually suggest.

How is VAT handled for Netherlands VPS orders?

All listed prices exclude VAT, and the server's location does not change the tax logic: VAT follows the billing relationship, not the data centre. Customers in Latvia and EU customers without a valid VAT number pay Latvian VAT of 21%. EU companies with a VIES-valid VAT number are invoiced at 0% under reverse charge and settle VAT in their own country, which includes Dutch companies buying an Amsterdam server. Customers outside the EU pay no VAT. The toggle above the plans previews both figures, and the invoice always shows VAT as its own line for clean accounting.

Do longer billing periods cost less?

Yes, and the discounts match Riga exactly: 3 months saves 5%, 6 months saves 10% and 12 months saves 15% compared with paying monthly. On the entry plan that turns 11 EUR per month into 9.35 EUR per month on annual billing. The discount applies to every standard plan and to custom configurations from the calculator, is applied automatically in the cart with no promo code, and each plan shows the saved amount in euros for your chosen period. Renewals follow the same logic, and you can switch to a different period at renewal if your plans change.
