Remote office: a hosted desktop with Windows and Office for every employee

A CloudHosting remote office costs 150 EUR a month for the office server plus 50 EUR per workplace, without VAT, so one person comes to 200 EUR and five people to 400 EUR a month. The price covers the office server in Riga, a desktop for every workplace, nightly backups kept for 7 days and 2 hours of administration every month; extra administration is 50 EUR per hour, agreed before the work starts. Moving your existing files and databases in is a one-off job quoted separately.

CloudHosting's monthly price for a remote office covers four things: the office server in its Riga data centre, a Windows desktop for every workplace, nightly backups kept for 7 days and 2 hours of administration a month. Microsoft Office is an optional line per workplace in the calculator, and Windows licences are arranged per project, so we settle them with you when you tell us the size of the team. Not included: the one-off job of moving your existing files, mailboxes and databases onto the new server, which we quote by the hour once we have seen what has to move. Setting up the office takes one to two working days after the order.

CloudHosting keeps a remote office on its own hardware in the data centre it runs in Riga, Latvia, so your data stays in the European Union, and each employee sees only their own documents and the shared folders you choose. Access goes only over an encrypted connection, with a personal login for every person. Our engineers administer the server, but nobody reads your documents: administration is about users, programs and backups, not content. A lost laptop holds nothing, because the files never left the server, and a departing employee's login is closed with one click. CloudHosting's remote office needs no new computers: any Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, iPad or Android tablet that runs the free Remote Desktop app will do. Old computers work fine, because the actual work happens on the server in Riga and the device only shows the screen, so a five-year-old laptop is fast enough. Remote Desktop is already built into every Windows PC and is free on Mac, iPad and Android. Many customers keep their existing machines for years longer this way, and a person can close the laptop at home, open a different device at the office and find the same windows still there.

For office work, browsers, accounting and business programs, CloudHosting's remote office feels like a normal computer, and a stable internet line of a few megabits is enough. Only the screen travels over the connection, while the programs run on an NVMe server sized for your team: 4 GB of memory for the system and 2.5 GB for each person with a browser and Office open. What it is not made for is video editing, 3D or games, which need a graphics card on the desk. If your team needs more power than the standard sizing, bigger servers are available on request.

When your office internet goes down, the CloudHosting server in Riga keeps running and nothing is lost; you simply cannot see it until the connection is back. Because the desktop lives on the server, people can switch to a phone hotspot or go to a cafe and carry on exactly where they were. CloudHosting can run Office in your remote office with your own Microsoft 365 subscription when the plan supports shared computer activation, as Business Premium, Apps for enterprise, E3 and E5 do. On a shared desktop Office has to run in that mode. Business Standard and Business Basic do not support it, and Office would open only in read-only mode. Without Office, we install LibreOffice free. Every CloudHosting remote office includes 2 hours of administration a month, and extra time costs 50 EUR per hour, agreed before the work starts. The included hours cover the ordinary things an office needs every month: a new user, a password reset, a printer, a program update, a question about where a file went. Bigger jobs, such as migrating a database or setting up a new system, are agreed in advance and billed by the hour at the same rate, so there is never a surprise on the invoice.

CloudHosting's remote office is technically a Windows Server 2025 terminal server in Riga, which other providers call a hosted virtual desktop or desktop as a service. One machine carries a Remote Desktop session for each person, and Office and your programs are installed once for everyone. The difference from the big cloud offerings is that the server runs on our hardware in Riga, the engineers who set it up answer the phone on working days, and you pay a flat price per workplace instead of by the hour.

CloudHosting bills a remote office one month at a time for the workplaces, with no automatic card charges, so leaving means closing the workplaces or the whole office. A closed workplace stops being billed from the next month; to end the whole service you tell us or do not pay the next invoice, and ending inside an already paid period needs 20 days' notice. Your documents are ordinary Windows files and folders, so they can be copied to another server or to your own computers, and we agree the copying with you in advance like any administration job. If an invoice stays unpaid, the data is kept for at least 30 days after the service is blocked.
